Shah Rukh Khan Trying His Hand at Gujarati after Tamil?

Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be seen playing a Gujarati
don in his upcoming venture if rumours are to be believed.

According to reports, the "Chennai Express" star has given an
"in-principle nod" to Rahul Dholakia, who will direct the movie.

"In the film, Shah Rukh is supposed to play a large-hearted Gujarati
don. Since the project is in the nascent stages, not many are aware of
it. Dholakia has already met Shah Rukh a few times about the film and
for narrations," Hindustan Times quoted an industry insider as saying.

As per the reports, Shah Rukh will reunite with Farhan Akhtar and
Ritesh Sidhwani, who worked with him in "Don" franchise.

"SRK trusts Farhan and Ritesh's judgment and vision. Besides, the
three of them are good friends. Since he has given his nod just a few
days back, things will slowly kick off now," the insider added.

The source went on to add that Shah Rukh will take up the project only
next year after wrapping up Farah Khan's film, "Happy New Year". "He
is currently busy with CE. Then, from September-October onwards, he
will start with Farah's (Khan) Happy New Year (HNY). So it looks like
Dholakia's film will be shot post HNY."

While no confirmation has been made by either Shah Rukh or Farhan, the
insider claimed that a major part of the film will be shot in Gujarat.

"If all goes well, a major part of the film will be shot in Gujarat.
But such details are yet to be finalised since both SRK and Farhan are
caught up with CE and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag respectively," the insider
said.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is awaiting the release of "Chennai Express"
on 8 August. Deemed to be one of the most-anticipated movies of the
year, the action comedy is directed by Rohit Shetty and has Deepika
Padukone in the female lead role.

The Rags to Riches Story of Shah Rukh Khan

It may sound like something straight out a Manmohan Desai potboiler. A middle-class Delhi boy, high on hopes and dreams turned up in Mumbai with just Rs 1,500 in his pocket and more than 20 years later, becomes King of all he surveys. He was a rank outsider; yet today it would be hard to find someone who doesn't know him. In fact, more recently, when Shah Rukh Khan stepped out at the Jamaa El Fna square in Morocco the entire city gathered around him. For someone who was kicked out from his house for not being able to cough up the rent, today he owns a string of prime properties in major cities across the world. 'Mannat', his Mumbai abode, has become a tourist hotspot. That's the magic of India's most celebrated superstar. His story is ripe for a biopic.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan was a success, potential blockbusters are in your kitty, you have won the IPL, conquered the ad world… what next?
A lot of people ask me this question — what else is there for me to achieve? So, if I say 22 crores, 11 Filmfare Awards and one National Award, does that mean after I achieve them, it's the end for me? If it ends, it means it's tangible. I've seen it all — money, fame and name; as a matter of fact I can retire now. But does it make sense? There are fools who ask Sachin Tendulkar when he will retire. No one thought it was possible to score 100 centuries; but he got them. And maybe, he'll make 500 more. Why are we limiting him after he's made 100 centuries?

I was a lower middle-class boy from Delhi when I moved to Mumbai. I had Rs 1,500 in my pocket and wanted to become big enough to earn a lakh. After I began working, I realised there's no end line. I believe that money has nothing to do with your personal success. On the face of it, I'm the biggest capitalist of all. I have all the riches. I'm the living proof of what stardom should be in material terms. But I've never sold my soul.

What do you mean when you say you've never sold your soul?
I've not done anything I didn't want to do. I've not done films for money. I'm not saying this with arrogance but I've never asked for a film. At times, I have called up a person if I liked his film but I've never asked for a film.

Is it wrong to ask for a film?
It's not about being right or wrong. When I meet young actresses, I learn a lot from them. It's amazing how they manage their careers. I've always been close to all my heroines but I've never had career discussions with them. Madhuri (Dixit), Juhi (Chawla), Kajol and I were all retarded in our own ways. I don't know whether it's for the better or worse. But I appreciate today's girls. The world has changed and they have adapted to it.

We always have this discussion whether it's okay to ask for a job. I haven't done it. But it doesn't mean it's wrong. It just means that I didn't like doing it and hence I haven't sold my soul. On the other hand, I do every ad that I'm offered. I do it for money. But there have been days when I have told my manager that I don't want to work with a certain person even if  he/she is paying me loads of money.

I never work with people who don't make me happy. I don't watch others' films if they don't make me happy. I don't watch my own films if they don't make me happy. That may sound silly and arrogant but I'm like that. So, if I don't like you, I won't do your film.

Is this attitude just limited to your profession?
No. You could be my son but I won't do the film. I'll not ask my son for anything. If he feels like, he can give me. I should get it without asking. Similarly, with films. I don't think like 'this is the need of the hour'. Is it bread and butter for me?

Films were never bread and butter for me. I'm categorically honest about it. My bread and butter is dancing at weddings. I ask for my bread and butter. I remember, I was dancing at a wedding and I told the host to ask me to dance when the couple has their first baby. This is my job. I'll ask for it. I'll ask for ads. I don't look down upon anyone who asks for a job. It takes guts to ask. But movies are not a job for me. People who consider films as a job should ask for it. There's a difference between job and work. You ask for jobs while work you just do.

I work towards making my children happy. I work towards making my daughter a writer. I do it from my heart. It's not a job to look after my children. It's something spiritual for me. My mother taught me to be the giver. One day, I might fall from grace and ask for a job but till then I'll continue doing only what I like. I want to die making films. Roll, camera, action and gone. I'll be happy if that happens. My familywill also be happy if that happens. My kids will be the happiest.

Shah Rukh Khan's secret visit to a local clinic

In a surprise visit that brought South Bombay nearly to a standstill, actor Shah Rukh Khanvisited a clinic in the Navsari building at Fort around 5 pm yesterday.

Wife Gauri Khan, who we were made to be believe was in London all this while, was present with her husband. Amidst reports of the couple planning a third child through surrogacy, this unscheduled visit to the doc was enough to get us curious.

When TOI investigated further, we were rather surprised to find the real cause.

SRK was only visiting eye-specialist Dr Burjor P Banaji for a regular eye check-up. Incidentally, Banaji also happens to be the doctor who treated the late Balasaheb Thackeray. SRK's appointment lasted for nearly 45 minutes, and the superstar, quite graciously clicked pictures with the clinic staff.

From what we could gather, SRK complained of burning sensation in the eye. "A mild concern which inevitably strikes when you get closer to 50," said the good doctor.

Shah Rukh Khan ropes in Honey Singh for Chennai Express

It looks like Shah Rukh Khan is determined to leave no stone unturned to ensure his latest project Chennai Express works out just fine. And then some more.

His latest brainwave is to get the much sought-after Honey Singh to compose a very special item song. A move that has apparently not gone down well with composers Vishal-Shekhar who have composed the rest of the songs in this eagerly-awaited film.

Says a source close to Honey Singh, "He was very pleasantly surprised to get a call from Shah Rukh about a  very special song."

Honey Singh is surprised to know that that one knows about his special song in Chennai Express.

Says the ebullient rock star, "I was very very surprised and happy to hear from Shah Rukh Bhai. He said he wanted me to do a particular song for Chennai Express and told me to do what I could. I wrote and composed the song while I was in Mauritius. Both Shah Rukh Bhai and I are huge Rajinikanth fans. This number is our tribute to Rajinikanth."

About Vishal-Shekhar's disapproval of his presence in the Chennai Express soundtrack Honey Singh shrugs, "What can I do? If Shah Rukh Bhai asked me to do a song I couldn't refuse. I am just doing my job to the best of my abilities.I can tell you this much. When the song comes out it will be a craze among not just Shah Rukh and my fans, but also among Rajini Sir's fans."

Shah Rukh Khan back with a bang: 'Chennai Express' already a hit

I can now be an action hero but only with Rohit Shetty: SRK

One of the most anticipated films this year is 'Chennai Express' starring Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Rohit Shetty.

The trailer of the film has been released and we aren't surprised with it being a visual delight. As this is Rohit and Shah Rukh's first time together so when Rohit was asked about working with SRK, he said, "It feels great; he is a lovely actor and a superb friend
.Even Shah Rukh had a take on this as he replied saying, "Rohit's hallmark is his vision for a film, the way he writes it and how his team works to get it on the celluloid. Genres whether it is comedy or action, his works speak volumes."

Regarding the action in the film he also credits Rohit saying, "It's easier to do action with the team that Rohit plans and organises than to do a love song in any film. It's completely harmless, safe and gentle. I can now be an action hero but only with Rohit Shetty."

As for Deepika and Shah Rukh coming back together on screen, Deepika feels, "This had to be as special as 'Om Shanthi Om' and I'm glad Rohit made 'Chennai Express' happen for both of us."

Regarding her onscreen chemistry with Shah Rukh she feels, "I didn't really have to fight with him; there are lot of arguments like lover's tiffs and it was fun to do that because I haven't had the opportunity to do so onscreen."

Deepika also puts some light on her character saying, "This is the first time I am playing a South Indian character with the accent, look and costumes. The environment and the experience of working with Rohit was also new to me. I have always been associated with the urbane rom-com love stories."

King Khan on the other hand talks about Deepika's excellence as an actress saying, "She has grown as an actor and whatever we wrote for her character I think she has surpassed that. It's fantastic to see her like that."

The trailer starts with some similar scenes from King Khan's movies and his name stays constant with 'Rahul'.

In the second scene Deepika is seen running in traditional attire to catch a train and SRK holds out his hand to her, reminding us of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge'.

Till that point you assume the film is about a romantic tale until there are these characters popping out of the nowhere with knives and guns threatening Shah Rukh.

It turns out that Deepika's dad is a Don (ironically it's not Shah Rukh) of an area and Shah Rukh is dragged into it somehow followed by a lot of action and drama keeping you glued to the screen. The movie is set to release this Eid and we wonder whether it will replace the chocolaty lover-boy image of SRK with that of an action hero.

Never spoke about surrogacy: SRK

Responding to the sex-determination test allegation levelled by an NGO against him, actor Shah Rukh Khan, in an email, informed the civic body that he had not given any statement on surrogacy.

Varsha Deshpande, from NGO Lek Ladki Abhiyaan, had asked the civic authorities to book Khan, his wife Gauri, Dr Firuza Parikh and the trustees ofJaslok Hospital, where the surrogacy procedure had allegedly taken place.
"The complaint was filed on the basis of news reports which claimed that the couple had commissioned a surrogate mother and the unborn child is a boy. Now that he has denied giving any such statement in the media,
we are looking for the doctor who may have leaked out the information," said a senior health official.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have served a legal notice to the activist. Acting on the complaint, health officials from the civic body had visited the hospital at Peddar Road to check if the administration or the doctors
had any role to play in the incident.

"We have served a legal notice to Deshpande for maligning the image of the hospital and of Dr Firuza Parikh, director of the IVF Centre, by making false statements regarding surrogacy and the sex-determination test allegedly conducted at the behest of Khan," said a hospitalspokesperson.

Krrish 3 to hit screens with Chennai Express

Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan will hit the silver screens together with the release of Chennai Express.

But Hrithik won't be seen in the film. Instead, the trailer of the actor's upcoming superhero film, Krrish 3, will be launched with the Rohit Shetty directorial on August 8.

"That's the plan. I'm going to talk to Shah Rukh or UTV about it," confirms Krrish 3 director-producer Rakesh Roshan. "Launching the trailer with a big film guarantees you many eyeballs."

Chennai Express makers keep distributors waiting

Although director Rohit Shetty's upcoming action-comedy film is being touted as one of the most-anticipated  movies of this year, the makers seem to be in no hurry to monetise the buzz. There's just about a month-and-ahalf left for the film's release and the producers are still keeping a host of distributors waiting.

Now, we've been informed by well-placed trade sources that the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer will only be sold after the film's music launch that is tentatively scheduled to take place on July 3.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "There's already a lot of buzz around the film, and once the music launches, they (makers) could even hike their price." Ask trade expert Taran Adarsh whether he expects them to follow
this route and he says, "It's the combination of SRK and Rohit coming together on Eid. And if the music does well, it would just be the cherry on top for them. There could be a price hike, too."
Co-produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and UTV Motion Pictures, Chennai Express will hit theatres on August 8.

When contacted, Gaurav Verma, director — India theatrical distribution, studios, Disney UTV says, "There is excitement around the film, (and) not just among distributors. We have offers for various territories, which we are
evaluating. We will take a call in the next few weeks." Sources from the unit confirmed that further developments regarding the film's sale will only take place after the music launch. A source close to UTV says that they have
made no quotations so far.

When is a film usually sold to distributors?
Film exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi explains, "Ideally, a week to 10 days is the minimum time needed
by the distributor to book screens. In that time, the exhibitor can also comfortably make advance bookings."
According to him, an increase in the gap between the sale and the release only gives the distributor more time to
promote the film. "Things were better back in the day when films were sold to distributors before they were
made or even while they were in production. The filmmakers used to keep the distributors in the loop about the
production and songs etc. to reduce the degree of risk to a bare minimum. These days, it's a gamble.
Filmmakers like Rakesh Roshan still do it the old way and this practice has earned them a lot of loyalty among
distributors in the country," says Rathi.

Shahrukh Khan: Not a single scene in Chennai Express shows Tamilians in poor light

The Bollywood superstar says there are no jibes against South Indians in his upcoming movie and that he admires them a lot

Amid reports that he is seen taking potshots at South Indians, especially Tamilians, in his forthcoming film Chennai Express, Shahrukh Khan has cleared the air by saying that he admires the Tamil people a lot.

"Because they are immensely talented. They are way ahead in technology and they are ready to work hard. And they are very friendly too," said the Bollywood Baadshah.

He added, "There is not even a single scene in Chennai Express which will show Tamilians in poor light. How can I do that when I admire them a lot?"

Deepika Padukone is the heroine of the movie, which was shot mostly in Tamil Nadu. Veteran Sathyaraj has played a crucial role in this Rohit Shetty romcom.

Tough luck, you can't hug Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is probably the only superstar, who often obliges his fans with a warm hug reciprocating their unconditional affection for him. Anyone who's met the actor will vouch for the fact that he is a complete charmer.

Knowing SRK's unflinching enthusiasm (he is always willing to return the fans' affection) we've heard people close to the actor are requesting those who pay him a visit to refrain from embracing him.

SRK takes off for Suhana

He left a media interaction midway to spend an hour with his daughter before she flew to London.

In between nursing his shoulder injury and honouring his professional commitments, Shah Rukh Khan has been left with little or no time to spend with his family. At a recent media interaction however, the actor dropped everything and rushed home just in time before his daughter Suhana flew off to London along with friends for a vacation they had planned.

The incident took place on June 13 at the Red Chillies Office where Shah Rukh was in the midst of media interviews.

An eyewitness told Mirror: "Following the launch of the Chennai Express trailer, Shah Rukh went to his office where media interactions had been lined up. Giving him company were Deepika Padukone and Rohit Shetty, who were with him till midnight almost. Around 11.45pm, Shah Rukh appeared to whisper something to his team and rushed out of the building. He wasn't there for at least 55 minutes."

While nobody had any inkling about his whereabouts, a source close to the actor spilled the beans: "Suhana was leaving for a holiday and so he went home to meet her. He had only so much time to spend with her although he felt bad he couldn't go all the way to the airport to see her off. He returned to the office within an hour and resumed interviews. Later, he went to another room and spoke to Suhana just before her flight to London took off at around 2.15am."

Red Chillies office turns into a fortress, thanks to Hrithik

Hrithik Roshan is honing his super powers in utmost secrecy. The VFX editing for his next ambitious venture 'Krrish 3' is underway at the Red Chillies office in Khar and the place has been converted into a fortress of sorts.

It is one of the most expensive films of the year and the details of the project have been a closely guarded secret. So much so, the gossip columns have not yet got a whiff of what is going on behind the closed door of the studios. Even in the post-production stage, every precaution is been taken to keep it that way until it is time to divulge more. To ensure this, an entire floor has been cordoned off for the project.

A source from the film unit told TOI, "If any one wants to access the floor in Hrithik's absence, he has to take permission from the actor. A call goes from the office to Hrithik and only when he gives a nod, the person is granted admission." Both Hrithik and RakeshRoshanfrequent the office to supervise the goings-on.

The source added, " Only those people who are required for the editing are authorised to be in the premises. The floor is out-of-bounds for other members of the staff. SRK has given strict orders to everyone to follow Duggu's instructions regarding this."

Roshan Sr is also not leaving any stone unturned to ensure maximum security. "There is absolutely no way information can leak out from behind the iron curtains," the source said. When contacted, RakeshRoshan said: "Hrithik and I have made it mandatory that no outsider is allowed on that particular floor. Red Chillies has a very professional set-up and is afantastic place to work."

Shah Rukh Khan celebrates Sri Lankan fan's birthday

There's no doubt that Shah Rukh Khan has fans all over the world, but few may be as star-struck as 70-year-old Shirani Samarasekara. The Sri Lankan visited the city last week only to meet the actor on her birthday. "Before she flew in, she did all the necessary correspondence with SRK's team so that she could meet him," says a source close to the actor.

Shah Rukh, too, was curious to meet the elderly lady, who took pains to come from another country just to meet him. The source says, "Shirani stayed at a hotel close to Shah Rukh's residence. He sneaked out of a media interaction session to meet her. They spent almost an hour chatting over coffee." http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/popup/2013/6/SRK-SriLankanfan.jpg

Apparently, the visit was a gift from Shirani's sons to mark her 70th birthday. "She's been a fan of Shah Rukh for the last 15 years. Even at this age, she does crazy things like watching his films multiple times and covering the walls of her drawing room and bedroom with his pictures. Her sons thought that a meeting with SRK would be the best gift for her," says the source.

At the meeting, Shirani showed the actor some pictures from family albums that she brought along. "There were pictures of her at various ages. She got some of them signed. They had a long, hearty conversation. Shah Rukh even spoke to her about his next film, Chennai Express," adds the source.

‘Chennai Express’: Shah Rukh Khan Claims to be a Fantastic Lover at 47

Bollywood superstar and the lead actor of "Chennai Express", Shah Rukh Khan, in a candid chat claimed that even at 47 he is a fantastic lover.

Shah Rukh made the comment during an event in Mumbai when he was asked to share his experience on how he felt when he had to play the role of a 40-year-old man in "Chennai Express".

The actor was quick to respond saying he never understood why people asked him such sort of questions. He went on to ask why his co-actresses,  who are younger to him, were never asked such questions.

He stressed that he is still a wonderful lover at his age. "I am a fantastic lover at 47 and not a virgin," he said.

In another statement during the event, Shah Rukh, who is often seen playing romantic characters in his films, confessed that he has a feminine side which would have hindered film makers from offering him macho roles.

Pointing out to the gathering as to how he was sitting with his knees touching and ankles crossed, Shah Rukh wittingly said, "I am a little bit effeminate. Look, I even sit like a girl!"

Shah Rukh, who will be seen in a hard core action avatar in Rohit Shetty directorial "Chennai Express" opposite Deepika Padukone, is recuperating from a shoulder surgery which he underwent last month after sustaining injuries while performing an action sequence for the film.

"Chennai Express" is set to hit screens on 8 August. The much hyped film is Shah Rukh's first release of the year.

SRK, crew survive on biscuits for a week

A crew of over 200 people, including cast members Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and director Rohit Shetty lived on biscuits for a major part of the week during the shoot of Chennai Express. "This was during an elaborate schedule at Dudhsagar, Goa," informs a unit member adding, "There was a major train sequence that had to be filmed on location and we had to be present at six in the morning every day. Since this involved a train that passed through a bridge at a fixed hour, we had to work on very tight timelines."

It wasn't just waking up early which proved to be their nightmare. "The cook had to begin making  preparations at two in the night. When it was finally time for lunch ten hours later, it didn't remain fresh at all," recollects the unit member. The matter was then discussed with SRK since the shoot would last for a week. This is when it was decided that entire crew would have to survive on biscuits.

"SRK took the first step and we procured tons of biscuit packs of varied variety. Everyone skipped their regular day meals for almost a week.  They understood that there was no other way out," says Rohit Shetty.

Respect life more than love, says Shah Rukh

Jiah suicide: Respect life more than love, says Shah Rukh

Reacting to the recent suicide of actress Jiah Khan, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khansays life should not be less important than love.

Jiah, 25, was found hanging at her flat in Sagar Sangeet Building in the posh Juhu area on June 3 around midnight. She apparently left a note, which points fingers towards Aditya Pancholi's son Suraj, who has been arrested in connection with her suicide.

Jiah and Suraj were in a relationship for quite some time and reportedly there were problems between the couple, which seem to have forced her to take the extreme step.

"Everyone has different definition of love. Love is a universal thing. I play the role of a lover which are written by a set of people...It is their interpretation of love. But I feel we should respect life more than love," Shah Rukh told reporters at the first look launch of 'Chennai Express'.

"There are going to be difficult times in everyone's life but one must not give up, and respect life. Every problem will be sorted out, don't lose hope," he said.

"There are going to be difficult times in everyone's life but one must not give up, and respect life. Every problem will be sorted out, don't lose hope," he said.
