Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan will be in Croatia this week filming scenes for his new movie Fan. The production will use Croatia's filming incentives to spend nine days shooting in Dubrovnik, before relocating to London.
Fan will spend EUR 1.1 million in Dubrovnik and will get a rebate of EUR 200,000 through Croatia's 20% filming incentive.
"We prefer locations where we can get an incentive to offset our costs," said Aashish Singh, an executive producer with production company Yash Raj Films (YRF).
"Having a filming incentive sends a signal to the producers that the country/state is serious about filmmaking and will co-operate to make filming easy and successful."
The production was also attracted by Dubrovnik's unique visuals and the film will shoot largely in the historic Old City, featuring Dubrovnik as itself.
"Croatia is an untapped beautiful location and the creative team loved the look and feel of Dubrovnik," Singh added: "We did a lot of research on cities in Europe that have not been seen in a lot of Indian films and then shortlisted a few before taking a final decision of shooting in Dubrovnik."
"We are excited at the opportunity to gain insight into the workings of Bollywood, one of the world's largest film industries," commented Boris Dmitrović of service company Formula Film: "especially given the fact that we are co-operating with Yash Raj Films, which is renowned for its very high production standards."
