Shahrukh Khan's roomie turns Filmistaan lead

The name Sharib Hashmi may not ring a bell. However, if one jogs the memory hard, he would be remembered as the man who played a small but an important part of Shahrukh Khan's Pakistani roommate in Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Things are expected to change drastically for Sharib who would now be seen in National Award winning Filmistaan, where he plays the main lead and a central protagonist.

"The film is set as a laugh riot about a film buff who wants to become an actor in Bollywood, only to find himself being held hostage by Pakistani terrorists. It is a hilarious affair because in any given circumstance, this man unleashes the Bollywood side of him," informs a source.

The makers wanted an actor who had an appearance of a common man and was a hardcore film buff himself. When Sharib auditioned for the part, they were bowled over and he was roped in.

"Incidentally, the film was ready when Jab Tak Hai Jaan released and had even been through film festivals. During last year and a half, it has traveled globally and fetched quite a few awards for itself, including a National Award," the source adds, "This is when UTV spotted the film and decided to pick it up for release."

If the promo is any indication, Sharib has unleashed the comic side of his in a major way and let his hair down. Though he was overshadowed by Shahrukh's star presence in Jab Tak Hai Jaan', indications are that the actor has pretty much come on his own in Filmistaan which releases alongside Akshay Kumar'sHoliday on 6th June.

Now will Shahrukh too come out in support of the actor and the film? Well, that would make for a pretty sight indeed!
