SRK on doing ‘Fan': Wanted to do an intense yet commercially viable film

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, whose latest release "Happy New Year" has kept the cash register ringing, says he agreed to do Maneesh Sharma's "Fan" because he wanted to do a cosy film which is intense yet commercially viable.

"As an actor, I feel that having done a big film, 'Happy New Year', I wanted to do a cosy film which is intense and yet commercially viable. Maneesh came out of the blue and he reminded me of a subject he had narrated eight years ago," the 48-year-old told reporters in a group interview.

"I was sitting with Adi (Aditya Chopra) and instantly agreed because I was in a happy state of mind," he added.

Shah Rukh also says that he is not sure if "Fan" will cross Rs. 200 crore mark but he is happy to do the film.

"I don't know whether the film (Fan) will do Rs 200 crores business or not, but I have to be in a similar state of mind as the director who wants to cast me. Five years back, a film I was supposed to do got cancelled and I called Ashutosh (Gowariker) and Ramu (Gopal Verma) but no one had any film for me.

"The timing has to be right. What restricts my choice of films is the directors – they are the ones who cast me," said King Khan who has reunited with his "Main Hoon Naa" and "Om Shanti Om" director Farah Khan for his latest release "Happy New Year".

Produced by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the film is a heist drama and also features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Sood, and Vivaan Shah.

The superstar, who generally does one film at a time, says this time he will be shooting for two films "Fan" and "Raees".

"I do one film at a time which everyone does. But right now I am doing two films. I would have liked to wait for two months after 'Happy New Year', but I have already finished a 20-day schedule for 'Fan'. Thereafter, 'Raees' will be over in 60-70 days if it goes as per plan," he said.

Shah Rukh Khan: Any film I star in will become bigger

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has had a tryst with off-beat films with 'Maya Memsaab', 'Swades', 'Chak De! India', but does not understand the concept of this genre as he feels his presence can turn any unconventional film into a mainstream money-spinner.

The 48-year-old actor, best known for his romantic hero act in films, said he did take a few risks with his movies but since he is such a big star, his experimental films also find audience.

"What is an off-beat film? You put me in an off-beat film and it will become on-beat. Like 'Chak De! India' was an off-beat film and it did really well money wise. It is the biggest success of my career," Shah Rukh told PTI.

"I think any film that I am part of will become bigger than it was meant to be as I am big movie star. Even if it is an off-beat movie, people will watch it and so it will become on-beat. I did 'Maya Memsaab', 'Oh Darling Yeh Hai India', 'Darr', 'Baazigar', 'Swades', 'Chak De! India' and others so I do off-beat films whenever I feel like doing it," he said.

However, Shah Rukh said that he is cautious about starring in off-beat films and will never take up such projects just to comply with what others want him to do.

"I will never do anything that others want me to do. I have enough money, I am a rich star, I am famous and have enough awards. I will do films that make me happy like I did 'Ra.One' because my children likes superheroes. My father played hockey so I wanted to do 'Chak De'. It is important to feel excited about doing what you want to," he said.

Shah Rukh said that his forthcoming releases YRF's 'Fan' and Rahul Dholakia's 'Raees' fall in the category of off-beat cinema and he is happy to be a part of them.

The star, who has been in the industry for over two decades, said even at this stage of his career he does not worry about his work as he knows he is evolving as an actor with each passing day.

"I have no worries at all. I am good at the craft, I am at a good level. I know my choices and do my best. I have no worries as every day you evolve as an actor. Actors don't worry and if they do they are not actors they are stars. And I am an actor. My stardom overshadows my work," he said.

Diwali at the box office with his upcoming multi-starrer film 'Happy New Year'. The movie will see the reunion of SRK and choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan after the success of 'Main Hoon Naa' and 'Om Shanti Om'. The actor said during the making of the film, which also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah, he learnt many important lessons especially the virtue of being patient. "I have never done an ensemble film where everyone has an equal part. When you are trying to entertain people you have to get bigger and better. 'Happy New Year' is a venture which we all have tried to take it to the biggest level possible to entertain people so that they are happy on Diwali. As an actor who has worked for 20 years and who could lose patience easily I think what this film has taught me is you got to be patient. Every good thing comes with patience. It doesn't come with speed, aggression. I think patience is another name for creativity," Shah Rukh said. 'Happy New Year', produced by SRK's banner Red Chillies Entertainment, will hit theatres on October 24. -

Shah Rukh Khan Paid Rs 6.84 Lakh For Mughal-E-Azam Posters

Shah Rukh Khan likes to live king size and makes film on bigger canvas every year. But he has other pursuits as well which are equally extravagant. The King Khan recently bought two original posters of Mughal-E-Azam for Rs. 6.84 lakh.

Like every years, Osian's conducted this auction of rare Bollywood memorabilia that fetched the auction company nearly Rs. 55.6 lakh. Apart from the Mughal-E-Azam posters, the Pyaar Hua Iqrar Hua moment captured in a painting by Arpana Caur with Raj Kapoor and Nargis housed under an umbrella went for 7.5 lakh, highest in the lot. The Dilip Kumar-Meena Kumari embrace standee of Yahudi went for Rs. 4.8 lakh.

The patrons were more interested in laying their hands on items focusing on legends like Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand apart from Nargis, Meena Kumari and Madhubala. It almost created a frenzy at the auction. The Ganga Jamuna artwork signed and inscribed by Dilip Kumar sold for 2.16 lakh and a six-sheeter poster of Mother India fetched 2.52 lakh.

Shah Rukh Khan to Repeat Epic Train Sequences in Aditya Chopra's 'Fan'

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is busy shooting Aditya Chopra's upcoming film "Fan", will reportedly have train sequences much like Khan's previous hit movies.

Be it "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Dil Se", "RA.One" or "Chennai Express", Khan had train sequences in almost all his big films and it appears like the epic scene will be repeated in "Fan" too.

"The set for the scene consisted of three train wagons that were recreated in the studio. One of the wagons was only half made so that the interiors could be shot with ease." a source close to the production house told Hindustan Times.

Apparently, the actor has already finished shooting for the action sequence last week at a suburban studio in Mumbai.

It looks like train sequences have proved lucky for the "Happy New Year" actor, whether it is dancing above the train like in the popular song "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from "Dil Se" or a film based on train "Chennai Express", all have worked wonders for the Bollywood king.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, "Fan" is supposedly based on the story of a fan who is on a mission to meet the one he has idolized for long.

Ileana D'Cruz of "Barfi!" fame, will apparently play the lead actress opposite Khan. However, the makers have not officially announced D'Cruz's involvement in the film.

Further, director, Maneesh Sharma has kept the film's content as a secret, and the entire cast and crew of "Fan" have been banned from using mobile phones on the sets, in order to prevent pictures getting leaked from the sets.

There were also reports that Khan will sport a different look in the film, for which Academy Award-winning make-up artist Greg Cannom known for his special effects, has been roped in to create a unique look for the actor in the film.

Written by Habib Faisal, "Fan" is scheduled to release worldwide on 14 August 2015.
